Caveman Wine Reviews: Depreville Demi Sec Ice Rosé

Note: This is a series I call Caveman Wine Reviews, because I like to drink wine but am a caveman when it comes to wine knowledge. I know only the basics, and do not have a refined palate. I’ll review the wines on price and what they look, smell, and taste like to me.

Wine: Depreville Demi Sec Ice Rosé

Grape: Does not seem to say on the bottle.

Bottom Line: A great pink sparkling wine that you are instructed to drink on ice. I did, and it was pure goodness. Very light-flavored, refreshing, and easy to drink.

Price: About $14.99 per 750ml bottle.

My Rating: 4.5 out of 5

Details

It looks like my local Total Wine got some sort of deal on Depreville wines, because it was bursting with them. Depreville here, Depreville there, Depreville everywhere. I saw this one and was intrigued because the bottle tells you to drink it on ice. I’d never seen such a thing, so, of course, I bought it right away.

Origin: France. Vive la France!

Alcohol: 11.5%

Looks: A cool, jacketed bottle with the Depreville horses on it. The jacket makes it unusual and pretty neat. The wine itself is a pinkish-orange color.

Smell: It actually smelled pretty bad to me. A very dry smell that kept its great taste a secret.

Taste: Oh man, I really liked this. I filled up a wine glass with ice and then poured in the Depreville, and had a taste. It was very cold (duh), light, and refreshing. No strong tastes came though, although there were noticeable peach notes, sort of like a Bellini (you know, like those they make in the big glasses at Macaroni Grill) but much milder.

My innermost thoughts. Credit: Giphy

You could also describe it as tasting like alcoholic soda, but with less sugar.

Hangover Factor: Nothing unusual. I’m a male in reasonably good health born in 1983.

Final Thoughts

This is a great, refreshing, easy-to-drink sparkling wine. In fact, it’s so easy to get down that, if not careful, you could catch a serious buzz!
